Forest resources

Within the Forest District Krosno area, there predominate coniferous forest sites with pine dominance.

Silviculture

The basic task of silviculture is preservation of existing forests (renewal), as well creating new ones (afforestation), with respecting nature conditions and natural processes. Within its range silviculture includes such issues as: collecting and storing tree seeds seeding, tree saplings production in the tree nursery, creation and nursery, as well as protection of forest cultivations and forest stands.

Forest protection

Knowledge about the processes existing in nature and the control of natural forest environment let the foresters make an early diagnosis of danger, that can be harmful for the forest condition. Every year, they take actions in order to preserve forest life and increase its natural resistance to damaging factors.

Forest use

Forest use means usage of its resources – timber harvesting, forest ground cover harvesting, plants harvesting in whole or partly for pharmaceutical industry, obtaining young conifers, exploitation of minerals, but also significant participation of forests in restricting global warming effect. The foresters enable the society to use forest crops in a manner ensuring its continuity and sustainability.

Forest management

Forest management in State Forests is based on the Forest Management Plans created for the Forest District once per 10 years. They are prepared for the State Forests by specialised units, among others by The Bureau for Forest Management and Geodesy (BULiGL). The Forest Management Plans are approved by Environment Minister after consultations with society.

Hunting

Hunting management in the Forest District Krosno is integral component of forest management.

LOCATION

The Forest District Krosno is located at the edges of charming and enchanting with its beauty Puszcza Rzepińska (Rzepin Primeval Forest), in the northwest of Krosno Odrzańskie, between such places as Maszewo, Cybinka, Bytnica.

The area of the Forest District located within several territories of communes, namely:Krosno Odrzańskie, Maszewo, Bytnica, Torzym, Łagów  and Cybinka , equals 21 428 ha. Natural border of our Forest District from the north  constitutes the Pliszka River, and from the south the Odra River.  Our area borders with four Forest Districts, namely Torzym from the north, Bytnica from the east, Brzózka from the south and finally Cybinka from the west.

The network of public roads is quite well developed in this region. Through the area of the Forest District territorial range, there run  two important roads, namely:

-          National Zielona Góra - Słubice road No. 29 ,

-          National Gubin - Torzym road No. 138 .

Through the area of the Forest District Krosno, there also runs the two-truck electrified railway Wrocław – Szczecin. This is the railway of the national importance, with passenger and cargo traffic.
